About

My story

Afrodelic is the project of guitarist and producer Victor Diawara who has released his debut album Dusunkun Hakili (The memory of the heart) in June 2022. An intriguing mix of African music and electronic rhythms. Most songs were recorded in Bamako (Mali) with local musicians and singers. Victor later added electronic sounds and beats in his studio in Vilnius (Lithuania).

The collection of songs is a tribute to Diawara’s father: well-known and respected Malian writer and poet Gaoussou Diawara who passed away in 2018.

Born in Lithuania, raised in Mali, Victor lived in Germany and Ireland before permanently moving to back to his mother’s home country Lithuania in 1997. Here, he formed Skamp – a band which became wildly popular in Lithuania at the end of the “noughties”. Skamp have released 10 albums, performed around Europe, won a number of music awards and were nominated for MTV European Music Award (twice).

Live:

Since 2021 Afrodelic were chosen as support act for Fatoumata Diawara (Italy), Tamikrest (Lithuania), JoyCut (France, Belgium) and have performed in over 10 countries including Fusion Festival (DE), InMusic Festival (HR), Europe Music Day (FR) and many showcase festivals such as Eurosonic (NL), Liverpool Sound City (UK), Primavera Pro (ES) and Tallinn Music Week (EE).

Reviews

"There was a time when Victor Diawara and his “Afrodelic” would have landed at “Realworld“, “Lukuabop” or at “Mango”. The striking power of these labels would have imposed on you the raw talent of this formation. This era is over but nothing prevents you from discovering their music for yourself."

For fans of: Fatoumata Diawara. Recorded in Mali and produced in Europe, Afrodelic are a funk/electronic/Malian group blending influences collected by band leader Victor Diawara (no relation to Fatoumata), who grew up between Mali and Lithuania. The result is a wildly enticing soundtrack of peaceful yet danceable tones.prevents you from discovering their music for yourself."
